Program Mission: The Pilates Shop teacher training  integrates the original Pilates vocabulary with the most up to date kinesthetic and teaching protocols.  
We are known for our application in teaching the vocabulary Joseph Pilates created and taught in the U.S.A since the early 1920's.  Our revolutionary thinking and approach towards the original Pilates vocabulary leaves you, the student with intelligent teaching protocols you can apply to all individuals.  This is what Joseph Pilates called "The Art of Contrology".  Pilates is a discipline of mind and emotion, not just physicality.  Pilates is a discipline of intention, which formulates our goals.  Our program will challenge and change your mind on how you think about being fit and healthy.  You will feel empowered, vibrant and energized by your new approach towards movement and teaching.  This process is inherent in all of us.
Pilates is not merely an exercise system, it is a system of thought towards movement which creates function and form.

CURRICULUM

The Original Pilates Vocabulary: Joseph Pilates original movement on all equipment.
Anatomy: Integrated Movement Assessment and Kinesiology
Developing Protocols: Learn how to approach each client as an individual within the original Pilates outline
Teaching Protocols and Teaching Skills: You will develop your own style by ways of methodology and pedagogy.  Create freedom in the approach of your teaching.
Career Development and Outreach: Where to apply for a job and what to expect in the Pilates industry.
CPR 

modules

Our curriculum in six modules.  Each module builds on the previous one.

Mat 1 certification
All fundamental Pilates vocabulary.  This will enable you  to challenge any client with a basic workout.
Requirements:  Lecture 20 hours, Observation and Apprentice Teaching 20 hours

Mat 2 certification
This certification is the continuation of Mat 1 and focuses more on complex movement patterns and stability.  "Dynamic Strength"
Requirements:  Lecture 30 hours, Observation and Apprentice Teaching 30 hours

Comprehensive 1
All equipment fundamentals 
Requirements:  Lecture 35 hours, Observation and Apprentice Teaching 120 hours

Comprehensive 2
Intermediate 
Requirements:  Lecture 50 hours, Observation and Apprentice Teaching 240  hours

Comprehensive 3
Advanced
Requirements:  Lecture 20 hours, Observation and Apprentice Teaching 140 hours

These requirements are an outline of approximate hours.  Hours may vary per each individual student.

Career Skills Seminar 
We offer all modules individually.  Look under prerequisites and requirements for specifics. We will offer CEC credits for continued education in movement, anatomy and teaching.

Prerequisite: We recommend 1 year of Pilates training prior to enrollment.  You are welcome to come in for 2 private assessment sessions.

​All applicants are able to enter our pre-certification program.  This program will bring you to the required level of training
Pre-CertificationApplicants who do not have the required level of training can enter our pre-certification program.   When you apply for the full Pilates Shop teacher training, you will receive 25% off all pre-certification classes.

1. Fill out the mailing list at the top of this page.
2. Fill out the received application and send it in by mail to the attention  "DIrector of Teacher Training".  You will receive your application once your mailing list request is received.
3. Application fee is $75.00 (non-refundable).
4. Applicants for Comprehensive certification only, please include your Mat certifications with your application.

6. We will contact you regarding your application acceptance and proper registration forms.

Will I be certified to teach Pilates after the course work?
Yes, if all requirements are fulfilled.  You will be certified by PSYG and will also take the PMA certification exam.

Why should I certify with PSYG?
As you can see in our program mission, we have a network of independent/unaffiliated Pilates studios in our area, nation and worldwide.  These studios are always looking for well trained Pilates teachers.

What national standards have been established for Pilates Instructors?
PSYG follows the PMA standards of Pilates teaching.  Please visit their website www.pilatesmethodalliance.org for more information.

What do I need to get started?

How long does the certification program take?
The certification will take approximately 6 months to 1 year.

Do I have to take all certification modules or can I take time in between modules?
Yes, you can take your time in between modules although we do recommend spreading the program too far apart, as for continuity sake.

How large are the groups for teacher training?
All of our groups will be a maximum of 10 people.  We find a small learning environment important to create a supportive teacher training structure.
